Jordan Love Is Showing Why The Packers Stayed Patient.nam

Jordan Love didn’t need much time in Green Bay to learn one of the biggest lessons Aaron Rodgers had to offer.

Now the Packers’ $220 million quarterback, Love looked back Tuesday on what it meant to spend his early years sitting behind Rodgers, especially with Green Bay heading to Pittsburgh for a matchup that will put Love across from Rodgers, former head coach Mike McCarthy and the Steelers.

Love said watching Rodgers work at the line of scrimmage changed the way he thought about the position.

“I think being able to sit behind Aaron, and see just the way he was able to control the line of scrimmage, see pressures make, protection adjustments and pick stuff up, was next level, and it gave me something to build up and to see and be like, man, that’s what I want to be able to do,” Love said via WFRV’s Carson Fowler.

He said that growth didn’t happen by accident. It took time on the practice field, work with the scout team and live reps when he got them.

“It’s something that I had to put a lot of time in at practice and scout team, obviously getting my opportunities in the game to be able to understand what I have to work on and get better at, but it’s definitely the area I’ve probably came the farthest in.”

That kind of development mattered because Love’s first two seasons in Green Bay didn’t give him much room to show what he could do. He appeared in only 10 games over that stretch and threw just 83 regular-season passes, which led some to question whether he would ever become the Packers’ long-term answer.

Three years later, that conversation looks a lot different. Love has settled in as a steady regular-season winner, with three straight playoff trips to show for it. For a quarterback who once had to wait in the wings the same way Rodgers did, that’s a pretty solid payoff.
